Department's Courses: Transportation Planning and Engineering, Structural Engineering, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering
Set within the framework of specific requirements and specifications for the upgrade and modernization of studies at the NTUA. The Senate has, among many other decisions, also decided on the complete, substantive, and in-depth integration of Computer Science and Informatics into the education system, with simultaneous strong support for the practical training of all students in the use of computers.
The PClaboratory, familiarizes students of the School with the use of personal computer systems and modern services offered on the Internet network, particularly in the field of informatics and computer science courses, as well as in all their undergraduate and graduate studies.
It supports the educational functions of the School, in the context of serving the needs of introductory courses in computer science and computer usage, as a priority, but also many other undergraduate and postgraduate courses, determined by the General Assembly of the School, by providing students with personal computer workstations connected to a local network and the Internet and equipped with appropriate software applications. The General Assembly of the School determines the courses that will be taught by the Computer Center, approves and issues the detailed timetable. In the Computer Center, all free hours are available for use by the students of the School, according to the attached sample schedule. Exceptions are decided on a case-by-case basis by the General Assembly of the School. The PClab operates according to an analytical approach. Before the start of each semester and under the responsibility of the Director, the detailed schedule is prepared, which, after the aforementioned approval of the General Assembly of the School, is posted in a visible place in the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Any modification to the schedule is approved accordingly, announced in a timely manner, and posted in the same location as the original.
The normal operations of the Pclab are at least seven (7.30) hours per working day (e.g. from 7.00 am to 2.30 pm), adapted to the schedule of the School, with the possibility of extension, after a decision by the School General Assembly.
Access to the systems of the VLE is done through codes. The access codes are strictly personal for each student or teacher, and therefore their communication, as well as their respective passwords, is not allowed. The network administrator systematically monitors compliance with the rules for the use of codes.
The secondary memory space (storage space) available to each user is naturally limited and in accordance with the needs of the specific course or application. Justified requests for any additional temporary space will be met with the consent and care of the network administrator.
Due to the conduct of lessons and exercises in the VLE, priority of use is given during the time of conduct of the educational activity. Any other use is subject to availability.
The stay of more than two (2) users per workstation is not allowed. Also, the simultaneous use of more than one workstation by a single user is not allowed, even if there is a plethora of workstations available for use. It is evident that, when maintenance emergencies require it, partial or total suspension of the operation of the Information Processing System (IPS) may be imposed for as long as necessary. The network administrator must inform users, as early as possible, either via email or through announcement messages during the initial access phase to the system, about the scheduled maintenance tasks of the IPS and their duration, as well as for any non-programmed activity of the IPS. Graduates are deleted from the list of IPS users immediately after notification by the Secretariat to the Director of the IPS of the corresponding list. All teaching users of the IPS must be aware of the operating terms and their special scientific role. In addition, they must inform all their students about the need for strict compliance with the operating terms and the demonstration of respect towards other users and the overall infrastructure of the IPS. Any questions or proposals regarding the operating terms of the IPS can be submitted to the Secretariat of the IPS.The equipment of the Laboratory (Central and Annex-Virtual) consists of a Sun Server (VMware Esx 3.5), a Domain Controller & Active Directory Server, a Stand-alone Server - File Server - RDMS & SQL Server - Backup server. They are in continuous operation and provide network access and utilization outside of the working hours of the Laboratory to those who have the necessary access conditions. More specifically, the H/W equipment includes
